FOOD FOR THOUGHT

During the 1991 Gulf War and the subsequent years of enforcing the "No-Fly" zone, the USA and its allies have bombed Iraq with the destructive equivalent of 7 Hiroshima/Nagasaki-size nuclear weapons.

Iraq is toast

January 1, 2003

I was wrong. Gee Duhbya didn't invade Iraq in October. I really thought he would but it turned out to be politically unnecessary. Lucky for the Iraqis. Seems that the Democrats folded up and hid timidly for the midterm elections so it was unnecessary for the Resident to start the war to take control of Washington. Of course W's been beating his chest and stroking himself so long about the war that it's going to happen anyway. Unlucky for the Iraqis. They probably won't even see what kills them. Donald Rumsfeld was saying the other day that if we do end up having to go to war with Iraq... if they force us to have to murder them, the war will not take more than 5 months. Rummy always makes me feel so warm and fuzzy when he talks about efficiently killing people.

Those curious North Koreans have added an interesting twist to the plot by restarting their nuclear weapons program and making it very very clear which of the Axis of Evil nations (not to be confused with the Axis Classic) is really most dangerous. Duhbya's response? No need to get excited yet, we'll just further isolate them economically. It hasn't worked so far so we might as well do it some more. He's just so brilliant.

So on one hand we have North Korea, strongly suspected to already have nuclear weapons and the missiles to deliver them, they kick out UN inspectors in clear violation of a UN resolution, they restart a nuclear powerplant which will soon provide them with fuel for more weapons... and on the other hand we have Iraq, where UN weapons inspectors have found... ... well, nothing at all. Clearly our only option is to murder Iraqis. Still think its about weapons of mass destruction and not the giant pool of oil underneath Iraq?

Basically Iraq is toast. They cannot prove a negative. No matter what they do, Duhbya et. al. will always say they're hiding weapons. Until the oil beneath their country is totally gone they are at risk. They do have one other option however... they could totally disarm. They could declare every gun, bullet, rocket, grenade and SCUD that they have and never build another. Then they could rightly demand that the United States and the UN defend their borders against any and all combatants and invaders. Since they are prohibited from advancing their military technology to match that of other countries in their region, they would then be vulnerable to attack. They could obtain the protection of the most advanced military technology on Earth for free! It could happen.
