BAMBOO

Consider bamboo as an alternative to hardwood floors. Bamboo is readily renewable. It will grow back to harvest size in only 4 years. It's beautiful, tough and earth-friendly.

how much stuff?

The natural home page is planned to be about earth-friendly ways to live in and build homes. When I look at the ads for new homes here in California, rarely do I ever see new homes less than 3000 square feet. They are huge. How much space do we need? How much 'stuff' do we need? Does granite really look better on our kitchen counter than it does as part of a rock face in the mountains?

We are the most wasteful society on earth and our gargantuan homes are the poster children of that waste. There is a trend in this county (Sacramento, California) toward building homes with 4- and 5-car garages. Why? So we can store more and more 'stuff' and park our gigantic SUVs.

You can see ten portable basketball hoops on a single block and maybe 1-2 if any, will be being used. Why not have one hoop with 10 kids using it? We must examine how we live and this page is where we're going to do it.
