bicycle STORY

bicycle

your last bicycle

March 15, 2001

What if you could only have one bicycle for the rest of your days? What would it be? A race bike? No, too specialized and fragile. One good mishap and your riding days would be over. Road bike? Very utilitarian but then limited to the road for the most part. A mountain bike? Perhaps... trailworthy but not entirely a pleasure on the road. A cyclocross bike? Hmm... perhaps a good compromise. Cyclocross bikes are undeniably tough, certainly roadworthy and can even be toured with quite well.

The notion of only one bike is certainly organic in that it reduces the 'waste' if you can call it that, of owning more than one bicycle. The argument could be made of course that easily 8-10 or more bikes could fit in the space needed by one car.

However in our effort to focus on living simply, we set out to consider what would be the best bicycle to have if you could only have one.
