TOPICthe incredible bicycle
it's amazing! The bicycle is man's greatest achievment in transportation. On a bike, a person can travel a hundred miles or more in a day while carrying everything needed to be self-sufficient. A bike can easily transport ten times its own weight (not even roads and bridges can do that), produces no air pollution and it makes its user healthier the more they use it. It may be man's greatest achievement EVER! A few years ago, Kobe, Japan experienced a devastating earthquake that destroyed much of the city and rendered nearly all transportation useless. Virtually all motorized vehicles were stopped dead by broken, cracked and flooded roads. Train rails were destroyed. For weeks there was only one useful mode of transportation in Kobe. The bicycle. Bicyclists were seen all over the city weaving in and out between stranded cars, trucks and buses. When riders encountered roads too badly broken to ride, they simply shouldered their bikes and walked across the damage. Try THAT in a car or even with a motorcycle! This bicycle page is a celebration of that most amazing vehicle, the bike.
